About
Hi, I'm Maura! I'm a college student and artist passionate about creating accessible, handmade goods. I started Maura Makes Art when I was 15, and since then, my love for creating and design has only grown. I'm currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design at Montana State University, splitting my time between Bozeman, Montana, and my hometown of Seattle, Washington. My creative process is continually inspired by the landscape of these places. My love for the outdoors has deeply shaped my design philosophy, keeping me grounded in natural rhythms and thoughtful in what I create.
In the summer of 2024, I began working with recycled sails and started seeking out materials I could repurpose into functional art. From sailcloth bags to climbing rope belts, I’m always excited to see what my sewing machine can handle, and how I can transform it. Sustainability is at the heart of my practice. I believe in giving new life to old materials and creating pieces that are both beautiful and built to last. I focus on making one-of-a-kind items for everyday use—from bags to hats—with the hope that everyone who encounters my work finds something that resonates with them.
