Typography Poster

Project Type

GDSN 223

For the final project in GDSN 223, I designed a festival poster using typography as the sole visual element. This type only challenge required me to carefully consider every aspect of type treatment, from layout and hierarchy to scale, color, and manipulation. I chose Seattle's Seafair Festival as my subject, an event rooted in maritime culture and summer celebration. To reflect the energy and boldness of the festival, I used a strong commanding type paired with vibrant colors. Without the support of imagery, this project pushed me to explore typography. Balancing text as content and form, I focused heavily on the visual rhythm, contrast, and hierarchy to guide the viewer's eye. This was one of the most conceptually and technically focused projects of the course, helping grow my understanding of how type alone can communicate a tone, movements, and identity in a layout.
